The CFM 9-Stage Drill Rebuild Methodology

01

Early Engagement

Every successful rebuild starts long before the drill enters the workshop. Our team visits site to inspect the machine in operation, working with planners, supervisors, mechanics and operators to understand recurring faults, operational challenges and client expectations. This collaborative approach allows us to develop Scope V1 and plan the rebuild properly from day one.

02

The CFM Pit Stop

Preparation is the key to minimising downtime. Before the drill arrives, our workshop is fully staged and major assemblies—including track frames, mast assemblies, rotary heads, drifters, booms and breakout systems—are rebuilt, verified and ready for installation. Once everything is prepared, the rebuild date is locked in.

03

Rig Arrival

With the rebuild strategy already established, the team gets straight to work. The drill is systematically stripped, inspected and documented, ensuring complete visibility of the machine's condition while maintaining momentum through the workshop.

04

Scope Review

Following strip and assessment, we walk the client through every significant finding. The rebuild scope is separated into agreed works and additional recommendations before Scope V2 is approved, ensuring complete transparency before major rebuild activities begin.

05

Major Rebuild

Structural repairs, machining, fabrication and component refurbishment commence. Frames, mast assemblies, booms and other major systems are rebuilt in parallel, keeping the project moving efficiently while maintaining the highest quality standards.

06

Reassembly

With the heavy work complete, the drill begins taking shape again. Prepared assemblies are installed using CFM's modular rebuild methodology, reducing critical-path downtime and accelerating the rebuild program.

07

Client Progress Inspection

Once the machine resembles a complete drill again, the client is invited to inspect progress. This milestone provides confidence that workmanship, quality and scope expectations have been achieved before final completion activities commence.

08

Button-Up & Workshop Release

The final workshop stage brings everything together. Hydraulic hoses, electrical harnesses, guarding, paint, decals, calibration and final quality inspections are completed before the client conducts a final workshop inspection, confirming the drill is ready for commissioning.

09

Commissioning & Handover

Our responsibility doesn't end at the workshop door. Wherever practical, CFM personnel travel with the drill to site or a designated test facility to support commissioning and operational testing. The rebuild is only complete once the drill has punched its first hole and both the client and CFM are satisfied with its performance.

From the first site inspection to the first drilled hole, the CFM 9-Stage Rebuild Methodology is designed to minimise downtime, maximise transparency and return every drill to production with confidence.
